After making her charge as the gritty, soulful pencil lead isaac Bashevis Singer of roots bikers Lone Justice, Maria McKee embarked on an often-rewarding solo career. A native of Los Angeles, McKee was born in 1964; her half brother was Bryan MacLean, the guitar player and old vocaliser of the groundbreaking ceremony psychedelic striation Love. After perusal musical theater of operations as a stripling, McKee started playing on the L.A. club prospect in a duette with MacLean and overly teamed up with local vapors isaac Bashevis Singer Top Jimmy (world Health Organization divine the Van Halen call of the like call). A roots-music scene sprang up in L.A. during the early '80s, and McKee -- a body politic music fan -- met like-minded guitar participant Ryan Hedgecock; the two co-founded Lone Justice in 1982, and with McKee often composition material, the mathematical group became a local favourite. They signed with Geffen on the recommendation of Linda Ronstadt, simply in malice of extremely plus media attention, their two albums -- 1985's Solitary Justice and 1986's Shelter -- failed to sell good, hampered by slick production and a good sense of not-quite-fulfilled potential. McKee went solo subsequently the latter record and released her self-titled debut in 1989, with Mitchell Froom producing.

McKee scored a critical find with her instant album, 1993's You Gotta Sin to Get Saved, which was helmed by Black Crowes/Jayhawks manufacturer George Drakoulias. Its rootsy, rustic rock and McKee's ever more powerful vocals lED many reviewers to call it her to the highest degree amply realized work to date. She went on to bestow the song "If Love Is a Red Dress (Hang Me in Rags)" to the hit soundtrack of Pulp magazine Fiction, and in 1996 she released a tierce solo album, the much artier Life Is Sweet, on which she played all the guitar parts. McKee afterwards took a suspension from recording, during which time she extricated herself from her trade with Geffen in lookup of greater creative control. She ultimately returned in 2003 with another ambitious criminal record, High Dive. In 2004, McKee issued Live in Hamburg, her first released concert picnic. It was followed by Peddlin' Dreams in 2005 and Live Acoustic Tour 2006. Late December appeared in 2007 from Cooking Vinyl Records.

Channel 4 - Richard Whiteleys Ex Appalled At Vorderman Treatment

The ex-partner of the late Countdown host Richard Whiteley has attacked the "nasty" handling of his former confrere Carol Vorderman.

Vorderman has left wing the Channel 4 show after some 26 geezerhood and more than 5,000 editions after it emerged she had been asked to take a 90 per cent pay cut.

And afterwards it was claimed the show's production team told Vorderman that Countdown had survived after the demise of Whiteley in 2005 and "volition survive without you", Kathryn Apanowicz has spoken out against the programme makers, ITV Productions.

"That [the producers' alleged remarks] upset me deeply as his pardner, and it did upset Carol deeply, and it's upset all of Richard's friends," she told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"It's nasty. You don't need to say things like that."

She continued: "I've been on the phone to Carol all weekend. It's one thing if you say, 'Look, we've had enough', simply this was dealt with in such an awful way.

"She said with great self-respect, 'Thank you very a great deal; I'm identical sad to leave - wish my colleagues all the best.'"

It was initially reported that following Des O'Connor's announcement that he was leaving the program, Vorderman chose to step down out of a wish to avoid the upheaval of working with another presenter.

"Then they decide to news leak that she's left because of a pay dispute," Ms Apanowicz continued. "I can tell you quite categorically - it was not."

She went on: "That is the thing [which meant] she said, 'The viewing audience must think I'm awful. Everybody's in recession at the moment and the last thing I want to do is alienate people.'

"She was even contemplating taking this ridiculous fig that they offered her.

"She did not ask for half a 1000000 pounds. She did non ask for more money. It is an absolute untruth."

John Miles, Vorderman's agent, revealed that the 47-year-old had accepted a pay snub of one-third, in job with a 33 per cent budget cut imposed by ITV Productions, only to be told she had 48 hours in which to decide to take or leave a 90 per cent pay cut.

Wim Wenders to chair Venice film festival jury

ROME (Reuters) - Acclaimed German director Wim Wenders will chair the jury of this year's Venice film festival, organizers said on Friday.

Wenders is perhaps best know for his films "The Buena Vista Social Club" (1998) and "Paris, Texas" (1984), both of which scooped up international awards.

He is already a darling of the Venice festival, winning its Golden Lion prize in 1982 with his film "The State of Things" about a shoestring movie producer and his ragtag crew.

He first appeared at the Lido in 1972 with the "Goalkeeper's Fear of the Penalty Kick".

His latest film, "Palermo Shooting" starring Dennis Hopper, divided critics at its premiere at the Cannes film festival last month.

The festival, in its 65th edition this year, runs from Aug 27 to Sept 6.

Sing live with Iron Maiden

THE only time you’ll hear heavy metal round my house is on Guitar Hero. There
is hardly a sniff of the stuff on my iPod.

But IRON MAIDEN have pulled out a competition that has changed my
opinion of the rockers.

One loyal reader and a friend will get to appear live on stage with them at
Twickenham on July 5.

The winner will have the chance to sing the chorus to their song Heaven Can
Wait for 50,000 fans.

The London show is the only UK date on the band’s Somewhere Back In Time world
tour, which will see them play in more than 30 countries to 1.5million fans.

To win this once-in-a-lifetime prize, just prove you’re a real Maiden fan by
correctly answering this question: Which famous British leader’s speech
is used at the start of the Iron Maiden classic Aces High?

Email your answer to biz@the-sun.co.uk.
Competition closes at midnight on Monday. Winner chosen at random.
